XENIA HAUSNER: Strangers in a stereotypical world

André Heller has already crossed paths with Austrian artist Xenia Hausner on several occasions: most recently at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, where André Heller made his operatic debut in Berlin with "Der Rosenkavalier", relying on Hausner, who has worked as a stage designer at major opera houses in London, Vienna and Salzburg. In his "Reflektor", André Heller adds another facet to the red festival thread "Strangers are only strangers in a strange land" with Hausner's large-format, colorful paintings, which are projected onto the walls in the foyer of the Great Hall around the concerts.

"Exiles 1" @ Xenia Hausner

"My motifs here not only stand for migration in the current sense, but also for rootlessness and a lack of belonging in general. Not arriving is familiar to me," says the artist about her "Exiles" series of works. Her various works were inspired, among other things, by the refugee movements of 2015 - images that have remained in our collective memory through the media and which the artist has elaborately reconstructed in advance in spatial settings with models in order to then transfer them to the canvas with oil.

THE INSTALLATION CAN BE SEEN FROM MARCH 16 TO 24, 2024 AT ANDRÉ HELLER'S "REFLEKTOR" CONCERTS.
