THOMAS SCHÜTTE: Westkunstmodelle 1:1
More than forty years after his first designs, Thomas Schütte will present three of his architectural models from the legendary Westkunst exhibition (1981) in their original size.
This fall, Museum De Pont will be showing three works by Thomas Schütte in the main gallery of the former wool spinning mill. The works (Ship, Stage and Box) invite visitors to climb stairs, stand on a stage or retreat into a hidden interior space. Over the past four decades, Schütte has created an oeuvre that is one of the most influential and at the same time most elusive works of contemporary art. The Westkunstmodelle mark the starting point both for his work and for this exhibition, which offers a retrospective of his architectural models from the 1980s to the present day. The architectural models also serve as a link in Schütte's incredibly diverse oeuvre: they bring together in concentrated form the diverse visual forms and themes that characterize his artistic practice.
