NEO RAUCH: Im Papiergrund

His seemingly collage-like pictorial compositions reflect incredible stories in a magical, almost disturbingly stimulating way and in a combination of history, premonitions and personal subconsciousness. The exhibition is entirely dedicated to his drawings and paintings on paper, which have remained relatively unknown to the general public until now. In addition to impressive large formats in oil, a representative selection of works in pencil, ballpoint pen and felt-tip pen will also be shown in Bensheim.

Neo Rauch himself says: "Drawing touches my painting trail in a meandering way; it occasionally crosses it, but does not want to point the way or pave the way. Occasionally it wants to appear to me like a terrier that, accompanying the hunter, cuts through the undergrowth. More nervous and instinct-driven than its master, it sometimes tracks down things that can surprise him."
