KARIN KNEFFEL: Face of a Woman. Head of a Child

Monumental paintings with picture-filling, fully ripe apples and grapes have made Karin Kneffel internationally famous. They not only show mere fruit, but also function as frugal temptation and beguilement. They function for viewers on an intuitive level and evoke symbolic associations of seduction and fertility. Her paintings with clear messages, strong colors and exuberant realism make Karin Kneffel one of the most important and sought-after painters in Europe today, revered by museums, galleries and collectors alike.

Karin Kneffel, o.T., 2023, Droege Art Collection

At Museum Kurhaus Kleve and Museum Franz Gertsch, Karin Kneffel is presenting a new series of works that have never been shown in museums before, which she created during the isolation caused by the coronavirus in recent years. With a few exceptions, this is the first time that Karin Kneffel has made the image of man the subject of this new series. She paints medieval Madonna statues from the 14th to 16th centuries with a special color scheme, which she found primarily in southern and northern Germany.

THE EXHIBITION CAN BE SEEN FROM 29.10.2023 TO 18.02.2024.
