TIM EITEL: Proposals for afterimages 2015-2024

With an extensive exhibition of around 54 paintings and watercolors, the Kunsthalle Rostock presents the work of the Paris-based artist Tim Eitel. Works from more than two decades show self-reflective encounters between people and art in modernist museum spaces, images of people in landscapes, architecture and color fields, clear forms and dark surfaces whose protagonists threaten to disappear into the painting ground. The themes change, other pictorial forms are added: sculptures as silent protagonists, pictures with cracks in time and space and finally a new closeness between figures and viewers under the influence of the pandemic. Each composition finds a moment of suspension and leaves plenty of room for the viewer's own experience, which is what makes these pictures so special.
