Rosa Loy - "Art makes the impossible possible."
Loy talks about "letting go" in the painting process and her personal challenge to bring beauty into the world with positive images.
The current episode of Das Wie am Was | film edition is dedicated to the German artist Rosa Loy. Rosa Loy is a painter and is assigned to the New Leipzig School. Her pictorial worlds are characterized by her passion for nature and her preference to the female subject. She paints less object-like women than self-confident, active and at the same time feminine doers in their full grace. In this video Rosa Loy talks about her work and reflects on a rule of Droege Group art - "Art makes the impossible possible." Loy talks about "letting go" in the painting process and her personal challenge to bring beauty into the world with positive images.

ULRICH ERBEN - ART MAKES VISIBLE. ART TEACHES TO SEE.
What role perception plays in the reception of a work and how conscious seeing can be trained
The current episode of Das Wie am Was | film edition is dedicated to the German painter Ulrich Erben.
Erben is considered a master of reduction and is one of the internationally recognised greats of concrete art. He is appreciated worldwide for his virtuoso use of colour and light. Today, his paintings are among the most striking examples of an art of colour.
In the current video, Ulrich Erben talks about his work and reflects on a rule of art - "Art makes visible. Art teaches to see." In doing so, Erben explores the question of what role conscious seeing plays in the perception of his art.

THE ART CONCEPT
ULRIKE THEUSNER - ART ORINGINATES FROM THE RIGHT GRASP
Why a mistake can also be the right grasp and how important authenticity in art is.
The current episode of Das Wie am Was | film edition is dedicated to the artist Ulrike Theusner. Theusner's predominantly colorful works appear light and impulsive and testify to her sovereign handling of all artistic means.
The artist draws a sensitive inventory of our present time and social moods. She creates images of the now, sometimes whimsical and as if hallucinating
Ulrike Theusner absorbs everything that visually and atmospherically impinges on her and brings it out again in her own, always slightly nervous, but nevertheless precise drawing style.
Whether she always finds “the right grasp” and how she deals with the unforeseen and imperfect in art - she talks about this in this video and reflects on one of the rules of the Droege Group - “Art originates from the right grasp”.
THE ART CONCEPT
WILLIAM FORSYTHE - ART DOES NOT FOLLOW STRICT RULES
In Forsythe's installations, the viewer himself becomes an actor, thus expanding his perception.
The current episode of Das Wie am Was | film edition is dedicated to William Forsythe. As one of the most important contemporary choreographers, Forsythe is also a sought-after installation artist, who has important museum exhibitions around the world and overcomes the boundaries of different genres. His multi-layered works actively involve the viewer, make him an actor himself and thus expand the usual way of looking at things. In the video “Art does not follow strict rules. Art defines them” William Forsythe gives an insight into his work and explains how he sees his role as an artist in the interplay of different genres at the interface between performance, installation and choreography.
Das Wie am Was (‘The How of the What’) - the art concept of the Droege Group - is an integral part of our business philosophy. The intensive engagement with art encourages seeing, sharpens the perceptional capacity and enriches our transformation and value enhancement projects as a creative source of inspiration.
For some years now - as part of the “Das Wie am Was | film edition” - we have been portraying artists who are closely connected to the Droege Group. In short videos they give a very personal insight into their work and interpret the "rules of art", on the basis of which we explain our work.

THE ART CONCEPT
ART AS A MEDIATOR FOR NEW PERSPECTIVES
Focused interaction with art opens up the potential to cultivate conscious perception and grasp new perspectives.
Focused interaction with art opens up the potential to cultivate conscious perception and grasp new perspectives. For the Droege Group, art is an instrument and an innovating stimulus that constantly expands our horizon of perception. Seeing more than what seems to be obvious at first glance is also a key to the Droege Group's entrepreneurial strategy - since only what you perceive can you change.
In every situation and in any decision, not only relying on familiar patterns and proven skills, but consciously expanding one's own perceptual space through our senses - this enables implementation according to all the rules of art.

THE ART CONCEPT
J. S. ONDARA - TALES OF AMERICA
He is regarded as one of the most exciting musical discoveries of the year: J. S. Ondara has released his debut album.
Tales of America
In his album Ondara narrates stories of America. They all are about all those little and big dreams. He himself is the epitome of a fulfilled dream of an immigrant in America. “When I came to America five years ago, all I wanted to do was to make a record. I had no leads, no knowledge of how to go about it, I couldn’t even play the guitar at the time. But I loved records so much and I had this dream that someday perhaps, I’d make one of my own.“
Art originates from the right grasp
The fact that Ondara's debut album is completely based on a "small format", on a purely acoustic musical experience, also fascinates Dr. Hedda in Brahm-Droege, who attended one of J.S. Ondara's two German concerts in Berlin: „Often you don't need much, in this case just the voice, to wake up great emotions and transform stories and hopes into acoustic images. The exceptional voice of J.S. Ondara is the right grasp from which art originates," says Dr. im Brahm-Droege.

THE ART COCEPT
KAI SCHIEMENZ - ART ORIGINATES FROM THE RIGHT GRASP
About the fascination of glas and why the right grasp is often just the right moment
The “Das Wie am Was - Art Concept” (The How of the What) of the Droege Group is an integral part of our business philosophy. The maxim of our company group has been enhanced by our post “The Art of Implementation”. Art encourages seeing, sharpens the perceptual capacity and provides us with a variety of suggestions which we use in our day to day business. In 2015, the "Das Wie am Was | film edition" was added to our art concept. In this series, artists give an insight into their work and interpret our specific art rules.
The new episode is dedicated to Kai Schiemenz. The artworks of the Berlin based artist Kai Schiemenz have a special appeal. He works with glass, a demanding material, which he treats in his own way and forms it into impressive sculptures. Kai Schiemenz understands „the right grasp“ often as „the right moment“. His perception of glass is not only one of its beauty. The artist shows us more dimensions of glass in his artworks – he creates rough, opaque surfaces, which then lose their crystalline character and let us see beyond what we used to percive as a beauty of glass.

THE ART CONCEPT
ANDREA ROBBINS & MAX BECHER - ART CREATES VISIBILITY.
The Art Concept | film edition: The artists scrutinize stereotypes and familiar images and in an unusual way.
ART CREATES VISIBILITY. ART TEACHES HOW TO SEE.
The “Das Wie am Was – Art Concept” (The How of the What) is an integral part of the business philosophy of Droege Group. The maxim of the company group has been enhanced by the post “The Art of Implementation”. It is a creative inspiration and tool at the same time. Art encourages seeing, sharpens the perceptual capacity and provides us with a variety of suggestions which we use in our day to day business. In the series "Das Wie am Was | film edition", artists give an insight into their work and interpret our specific art rules.
Andrea Robbins and Max Becher are internationally renowned artists. In their socio-critical works in their matter-of-fact and documentary language, they deal with the worldwide effects of colonialism, immigration, mass tourism and the Holocaust. They scrutinize stereotypes and familiar images and in an unusual way stimulate us to take a closer look and reflect. This resulted in numerous series dealing with buildings and settlements that were transplanted into ethnologically and geographically foreign places, the cowboy culture of the black minority in the USA, ultra-orthodox Jewish settlements in Brooklyn, German Indians or Exile Brands - Cuban cigars produced outside of Cuba in the USA. Their artworks open our eyes and teach us to see in a striking and subtle manner.

THE ART CONCEPT
KARIN KNEFFEL
The Art Concept | Encounter: Visiting David-Hansemann-Haus, Headquarter of Droege Group in Düsseldorf.
After the successful launch of the format "Das Wie am Was | Encounter" with Neo Rauch in 2015, the Droege Group is now continuing the series with Karin Kneffel. The Droege Group presents numerous oil paintings and watercolours from all phases of her work in the David-Hansemann-Haus, its corporate headquarters in Düsseldorf's city centre: Animal portraits, fruit still life, interiors and much more.
This short film shows impressions of the opening event, which took place in the presence of artist herself and many invited guests on September 8,2017.
For many years now, the “Das Wie am Was - Art Concept” (The How of the What) of the Duesseldorf based investment- and consulting house Droege Group has been an integral part of our business philosophy. Art to us is an innovation generator, encouraging seeing and opening up new views. With the help of art, colleagues of Droege Group sharpen their perceptual capacity and learn how to transfer phenomena of art to issues in business projects, thus providing a variety of suggestions which are used to shape the developments of companies.

THE ART CONCEPT
CODY CHOI - CREATION AND PERCEPTION BECOME ONE
The Art Concept | film edition: How does our cultural context influence our perception and thinking?
The “Das Wie am Was – Art Concept” (The How of the What) of the Droege Group is an integral part of the business philosophy of Droege Group. In the series "Das Wie am Was | film edition", artists give an insight into their work and interpret our specific art rules.
How is an identity given shape? How does our cultural context influence our perception and thinking? How do clichés and prejudices arise and how do cultures influence each other? The conceptual artist Cody Choi, born 1961 in Seoul, is devoting himself to these and other questions. His installation art and paintings reflect his own autobiography – his emigration to the US at the age of 22 and his being torn apart between the eastern and western cultures. At the same time his works provocatively discuss the controversies between the different cultures and the ongoing Westernization of his home country. We met the artist at Venice during the installation of his Korean Pavilion at 57th Venice Biennale 2017. After living in Los Angeles and New York, Cody Choi returned to Seoul in 2003, where he holds a professorship.
THE ART CONCEPT
JERRY ZENIUK - ART DOES NOT FOLLOW STRICT RULES.
Why is painting is the highest form of thinking what role does space play.
The “Das Wie am Was – Art Concept” (The How of the What) of the Droege Group is an integral part of our business philosophy. The maxim of our company group has been enhanced by our post “The Art of Implementation”. Art encourages seeing, sharpens the perceptual capacity and provides us with a variety of suggestions which we use in our day to day business. The "Das Wie am Was | film edition" is one building block of our art concept. In this series, artists give an insight into their work and interpret our specific art rules.
The new film is dedicated to Jerry Zeniuk, the German-American painter who was born as son of Ukrainian refugees in Germany in 1945, and later grew up in New York. He was professor at the Academy of Arts in Munich from 1993 until 2011. The elementary painting by this German American artist is neither narrative nor figurative. It deals with philosophical questions of life expressed through colour, light and space. In this film Jerry Zeniuk explains, why all good painters say that painting is conceptual, what he believes to be the highest form of thinking and why space plays the most important role in his paintings.

THE ART CONCEPT
KARIN KNEFFEL - ART IS ABILITY WITH RISK
The Art Concept | film edition: Karin Kneffel asks the observer and enables new perspectives and views.
The "Das Wie am Was - Art Concept" (The How of the What) of the Droege Group is an integral part of our business philosophy. The maxim of our company group has been enhanced by our post "The Art of Implementation". In 2015, the "Das Wie am Was | film edition" was added to our art concept. In this series, artists give an insight into their work and interpret our specific art rules.
Karin Kneffel completed her artistic education at the Academy of Fine Arts Duesseldorf as a master-class student with Gerhard Richter. In 2008 she was appointed professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich. Her artistic oeuvre is manifold. It questions the observer and enables new perspectives and views. Reflections, vistas through steamed up and moistened window panes and extreme perspectives prevent the observer from being drawn into her paintings. Instead, Karin Kneffel wants the observer to deal with the art work. This is the only method to recognize the quality of her images - the HOW. By perfect craftsmanship she manages to bring her art to the heart of the matter. The HOW - the quality - is the main issue of her artistic work rather than the mere representation, the WHAT. Quality and proficiency thus could never be a final state. This state rather needs to be achieved again and again which requires practice and the absolute desire to succeed. The wish to achieve something and the proficiency to achieve it goes hand in hand, Karin Kneffels says.

TIM EITEL - ART NEEDS ITS TIME
The Art Concept | film edition: The artist about the world of the ideal and abstraction and the world of perception.
ART NEEDS ITS TIME
The “Das Wie am Was - Art Concept” (The How of the What) of the Droege Group is an integral part of our business philosophy. The maxim of our company group has been enhanced by our post “The Art of Implementation”. Art encourages seeing, sharpens the perceptual capacity and provides us with a variety of suggestions which we use in our day to day business. It is both a creative inspiration and media.
In 2015, a new video series "Das Wie am Was | film edition" was added to our art concept. In this series, artists give an insight into their work and interpret our specific art rules.
Tim Eitel is one of the representatives of the so-called New Leipzig School, Germany. He was born in 1971 in Leonberg, Germany, and began with a degree in painting at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig in 1997. From 2001 to 2003 he was a master student of Arno Rink. After having lived in Los Angeles, New York and Berlin he now lives and works in Paris.
In his work he strictly reduces his motifs to the bare minimum. Narration in his paintings is often avoided. He himself calls his artistic approach ‘Photoshop on the canvas’. Indeed, photographs and clippings of photographs serve as the starting material for his paintings. During the painting process these clippings are transferred onto the canvas, assembled and gradually reduced. In his works, the artist has discovered darkness. This darkness alienates objects and figures, making them less visible and establishing a distance to the viewer. Only after some time does the viewer begin to see everything clearly. Then, according to the artist, two worlds meet: the world of the ideal and abstraction and the world of perception.

THE ART CONCEPT
XENIA HAUSNER - ART NEEDS AN ENVIRONMENT
The Art Concept | film edition: Image conception is the most important process in Xenia Hausners work.
ART IS CULTURE. ART NEEDS AN ENVIRONMENT.
„Das Wie am Was - Art Concept“ (The How of the What) of the Droege Group has been an integral part of our business philosophy since 1995. Art encourages seeing, sharpens the perceptual capacity and provides us with a variety of suggestions that we use in our transformation and value enhancement programs. Our new video series is intended to be ‘food for thoughts’. Different types of artists with whom we collaborate, allow us an insight into their work and interpret specific art rules.
The next artist in our video series is the painter Xenia Hausner. She was born in Vienna in 1951 and nowadays is one of the most well-known Austrian artists. After her education at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Academy of Dramatic Art London, she worked as a stage designer for several large theaters and operas. Since 1992 she has devoted herself solely to painting. Her mostly large portraits of women characterize interpersonal relationships. Her canvases tell us stories that captivate the observer with their emotional, disconcerting and mysterious impact.
Image conception is the most important process in her work. Photography plays a decisive role within this process. It serves not only as a template for her paintings, but rather as a basis for the enhancement of her motifs. They are alienated, magnified or cut-out.
During the last few years the artist has been travelling throughout China and Asia several times, and even lived there temporarily. The impressions from these journeys resulted in a new series of works in which people from different cultures enter into a dialogue.

NEO RAUCH
The Art Concept | Encounter: Visiting David-Hansemann-Haus, Headquarter of Droege Group in Düsseldorf.
On October 2nd, Neo Rauch, founder of the New Leipzig School, visited the David-Hansemann-Haus, the headquarter of Droege Group in Duesseldorf. On the occasion of this visit and hosted by our "Das Wie am Was - Art Concept", Droege Group presents some of Neo Rauch's paintings, drawings and sculptures.

STEFAN KÜRTEN - ART IS A PROCESS
The Art Concept | film edition: Art encourages seeing, sharpens the perceptual capacity and provides us with a variety of suggestions.
ART IS A PROCESS
„Das Wie am Was - Art Concept“ (The How of the What) of the Droege Group has been an integral part of our business philosophy since 1995. It is a key differentiator by which the WHAT - meaning the Advisory and Investment Company - is distinguished by the HOW following our ‘rules of art’. The “Wie am Was - Art Concept” became an essential part of our corporate philosophy: enthusiasm for quality and commitment to implementation according to our rules of art.
Art encourages seeing, sharpens the perceptual capacity and provides us with a variety of suggestions that we use in our transformation and value enhancement programs.
With the introduction of our recent ‘Wie am Was - film edition’ we started a new series as ‘food for thoughts’. Different types of artists with whom we collaborate, allow us an insight into their work and interpret specific art rules through which we explain our work.
This film is about Stefan Kürten. Born in 1963, he currently lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany. He has been professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Düsseldorf since 2014, where he himself was also formed.
