Jörg Immendorff - Where Do You Stand with Your Art, Man?

The Museo Reina Sofía is dedicating a major retrospective from 30 October 2019 to 13 April 2020 to the Düsseldorf artist Jörg Immendorff.

Immendorff was born in 1945 in the mid-1960s at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and a pupil of Joseph Beuys. Starting from his first attempts as an agitation artist in a Dadaist manner, he developed his own pictorial language over the course of the years across the various creative cycles. Strongly influenced by his political sense of mission, his motifs are always multi-layered and also offer insights into the artist's world of thought, in which ideas about time and space are in dialogue with one another.

The renowned Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid is showing Immendorff's works in cooperation with the Haus der Kunst in Munich. Instead of following a strict chronology, the show is organized around various thematic chapters that are linked to the development and processes of change in Immendorff's art. Around one hundred of the artist's works from various media - painting, sculpture, drawing - can be experienced in Madrid.

The exhibition is supported by loans from the Droege Collection.
