ROSA LOY: Sun in mind

The exhibition Rosa Loy – Sonne im Sinn (Sun in Mind) presents an extensive selection of her works, including paintings, drawings, collages, prints, and objects created in recent years.

The artist is associated with the New Leipzig School, which favored a figurative style of painting in the 1990s at the Academy of Visual Arts (HGB) in Leipzig. Her paintings are often characterized by precise and detailed execution, using traditional techniques, often combined with modern themes and approaches. Internationally, her works are considered part of the painterly position of new surrealism.

Rosa Loy, Verweile doch (Stay a while), casein on canvas, 2025

Rosa Loy's paintings offer a fascinating exploration of sensuality, combining traditional and contemporary elements. Her works invite deep, meditative contemplation, revealing a rich perspective on the world. Many of Loy's paintings contain a symbolic layer based on ancient and modern myths, fairy tales, dreams, and everyday banality. Often surreal scenarios, rich in natural motifs and mythological allusions, create a sensual connection between humans and nature. Nature is often depicted as alive and animated, which enhances the sensuality of the scenes of female figures in a lush, nature-loving environment. In some paintings, however, the scene takes place in a closed space, emphasizing the drama, sensuality, or casualness of the moment.

THE EXHIBITION WILL BE ON DISPLAY FROM SEPTEMBER 21 TO NOVEMBER 30, 2025.
